This beautiful, intelligent, ambitious young man is Quebec’s current brightest cinematic hope. About to direct his fourth feature film at the age of twenty-three, Monsieur Dolan is what one might call ‘precocious’. A successful former child actor from one of those wonderfully artistic and creative families that you wish you were from, Xavier moved into directing in 2009 and although he was still a foetus then his first film (J’ai Tué Ma Mère) drew much attention at Cannes. Quite rightly — it’s beautiful. Having just recently watched his third feature, Laurence, Anyways, it is clear that this prodigious talent is going to become hugely successful. Don’t you just hate it when young, young, brilliant people make you look decidedly shit? I mean, I’m still in my pajamas and it’s past midday.
(For Gary and Thom – two beautiful souls! Xx)
