Yeah, he’s almost definitely a Tory. And yeah, most of his sons are absolute bellsniffs of the highest order (quite fit though); but Ferry is just so, so elegant and makes such dreamy-weamy music (aside from his obsession with godawful cover versions). He was born to be draped in loosened bow ties and YSL dinner jackets. Watch the video for Slave To Love — it’s like an eighties music video version of a Tamara de Lempicka painting set in the Giorgio Armani flagship store in New York. Awesome, basically. A long-standing crush for most of my friends (and my Mum), Bryan Ferry symbolises art-school-graduate-gauche-living, yet is from a working-class Tyne & Wear family. The juxtaposition is what makes him so very arseholey, yet so very irresistible.
(For Elaine and Sharmila – both beauties xx)
