Slender, laconic and poised, Stamp embodied the louche cool of the rise of the 1960s British alternative heartthrob. Stepping out with the likes of Jean Shrimpton, Brigitte Bardot and, of course, Julie Christie, Stamp became synonymous with the iconic image of the ‘Swinging Sixties’ (which is actually one of my most loathed phrases – it’s up there with ‘Yummy Mummy’ and ‘Why not purchase a Ryanair scratch card from one of the flight attendants on board today and have the chance to win One Million Euro’). He is aging as elegantly as expected, with those fabulous eyes having lost none of their dazzling brilliance. He looks like he’d give you a proper death stare if you nicked some chips off his plate though, innit.
