If you haven’t seen The Artist yet, why the fuck not?! Hurry up! It’s stupendously joyous. It’s wonderfully idiosyncratic. And Dujardin here is absolutely the star (apart from Uggie the dog). This is a topical post, I guess . . . but I think he’ll stand the test of time. Blessed with the kind of expressive face that makes monochrome worthy of being on the ‘best invention ever’ list, this handsome Frenchman has brought to life the most challenging of roles. Using only his physicality, Dujardin encapsulates arrogance, fear, joy, hilarity, pompousness, desolation and splendour. He will surely win an Oscar. He also happens to be extremely sexy, funny and talented.
(This post is for you, Jake: you’ll get that bakelite hair and full sized portrait yet, kid xx)
